Welcome to a very special episode of GEEKING POETIC! In this episode, your hosts Larry Roberts and Megan Guess are discussing the results of a recent poll taken in the GEEKING SQUAD GROUP on Facebook where people voted on ten Holiday film "classics", ranking them from least to most watchable. Ten films were listed to choose from, and the results were somewhat surprising (at least to us!) Meg and Larry list the films according to the votes and then offer up their own thoughts and how they'd rank these films themselves. Do you agree with the rankings? Do you think it misses the mark? Make sure to leave comments and let us know your thoughts!
The opinions we gathered from the poll we posted can be found at our free Facebook group we made for all geeks to gather at and have fun! Check out the Geeking Squad Group on FB: / 427026008129459

Welcome to a very special episode of GEEKING POETIC! In this episode, your hosts Larry Roberts and Megan Guess are discussing what they consider to be the "classic era" of animated holiday specials, ranging from the early 1960's through to the late 1980's. They've picked 12 to focus on for this ranking, and they are not only going by their own thoughts and impressions but also compiling from the results of their poll on the GEEKING SQUAD GROUP on Facebook. They list the results from that poll, as well as offer up their own thoughts, to create an overall "Master List" at the end, ranking from S (superior) down to F (fail)! And fair warning, some of these classics might get a ranking that differs from your own, this is all just done in fun (i.e. don't take this too seriously, folks)! How would you rank these 12 classics? Make sure you let us know in the comments below!

The ALL-NEW GEEKING SQUAD PODCAST - EPISODE 9 - A Pop Culture Discussion
Thursday Dec 07, 2023
Thursday Dec 07, 2023
WARNING: Geeking Poetic is a channel designed to appeal to adults, and as such contains adult language and content that is not meant for younger or more sensitive audiences. Viewer discretion is advised!
Welcome to the NINTH episode of the revamped, all-new GEEKING SQUAD PODCAST (aka THE SQUAD'CAST)! This is a pop-culture centric show where we discuss everything from movies to television to comics and toys to music and so much more. Your hosts Larry Roberts and Megan Guess delve into some of the latest news in pop culture, as well as discuss some "real talk" about geeky topics that are currently highlighted in the news and such. In addition to that, they'll be doing some trivia and games as well as contests, and focus primarily on the topics that have been featured lately in the Geeking Squad Group on Facebook (free and easy to join!) Join us for some fun discussion about all things geeky!
TOPICS COVERED IN THIS EPISODE:
WHATS SHAKIN BACON:
- We remember fondly the recently passed MARTY KROFFT, half of the Sid and Marty Krofft duo who are a Canadian sibling team of television creators and puppeteers, known for their fantasy and variety shows in the 1970s. They have made H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost, and many other classic television shows from the '70s and '80s.
- Megan and Larry are excited to learn that MCDONALD'S is bringing back the McNugget Buddies as part of their adult sized HAPPY MEALS! Also they theorize about McDonald's secretive new restaurant they're supposedly launching soon....They also discuss their theories about why McDonald's doesn't just go back to being more family friendly and kid-centric.
- Larry surprises Megan with the news that RUDOLPH THE RED NOSES REINDEER actually got it's start in Chicago as part of MONTGOMERY WARDS catalog services!
- The news has come out that a live action version of Disney's GARGOYLES is in production now.
- Larry and Megan argue about which HIGHLANDER was the best, since the news has surfaced that the Henry Cavill-led reboot of HIGHLANDER is coming out soon. Megan also reveals that she's never seen THE WITCHER!
- BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 is officially announced with some on-set photos leaked. Starring EDDIE MURPHY as Axel Foley, with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Judge Reinhold, Bronson Pinchot, and more.
- Larry is excited to find more old stock footage of people shopping at Christmastime back in the early 1980s, and questions Meg (and the audience) as to why so many people seem to get excited and find such interest in watching this type of nostalgic yet basic footage.
- They are excited to find out that a new season (Season Six actually, not Four like Larry thought!) of Amazon Prime's collector-centric series A TOY STORE NEAR YOU is coming out! A Toy Store Near You highlights brick and mortar businesses that foster community among toy collectors by stocking a mix of new and vintage toys and collectibles. With each season, Nacelle donates the majority of its profits from the series to the stores that are featured. And one of the stores being featured is CROWN POINT TOYS & COLLECTIBLES, one of Geeking Poetic's favorite stores in the Midwest!
SQUAD-TALK SEGMENT:
- Larry and Megan discuss SPOTIFY and their recent "Year End Wrap-up" lists provided to listeners and users. They discuss their own listen habits and lists, but also address the negativity and fighting going on amongst people regarding whether or not to support and use SPOTIFY, and offer some views and insights on the matter...
- Once again it is time to get into more "CHOOSE" memes! Megan and Larry heavily debate a "THANKSGIVING MEAL" choose meme that Larry finds nearly impossible, as well as some other fun ones about bring back vintage stores, and Megan is only too eager to pick her "Favorite Mustaches" from the 1980s! Also some fun talk about their first video game controllers and experiences with that as kids.
WHADDAYOU SUGGEST segment:
- This time around, both Larry and Megan suggest that people check out the new DOCTOR WHO SPECIALS on Disney Plus, featuring the return of DAVID TENNANT and CATHERINE TATE as the Doctor and Donna, respectively. The specials are a fun romp and bring back a much needed dose of classic DOCTOR WHO craziness and fun!
- They suggest you check out a cool YouTube channel called BE AMAZED! This channel provides interesting thought provoking content that is smart and fun, discussing various facts, insights and tips based on everything from mysterious happenings to the human body to all kinds of stuff. Megan loves the animation and the bad puns (of course!), and thinks this is a great bit of informative-yet-easily digestable entertainment. www.youtube.com/beamazed
